ABOUT
Psychoda is an Australian band formed in Newcastle NSW after the COVID-19 lockdowns. The band began at Novotone Studios when songwriter Mikey Montgomery reached out to Jordan Mitchley to jam some songs he had written in lockdown. Jordan brought in drummer Ben Copland, his former bandmate from Roxferry. The band then started performing shows along the New South Wales North Coast, especially in Sydney and Newcastle.
Today, Psychoda consists of Mikey Montgomery on guitars and vocals, Jordan Mitchley on bass and Jake Tife on drums. Jordan and Jake were previously bandmates in Roxferry. The band is focused on music gear, constantly experimenting with pedals, amps and guitars to express their vision.
Psychoda’s sound has been continually evolving over the years, beginning immersed in stoner rock with influences from Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and Danzig. Later, they shifted to a heavier style inspired by Swedish Death Metal, Sludge and Hardcore genres.
The band has released two singles, a five-track EP and has built a reputation for powerful shows. Mikey previously opened for Nick Oliveri & Grinspoon with his old band King Coyote while Psychoda has supported the Brant Bjork Trio.
Psychoda hold a relentless work ethic and is set apart by their determination to persist with their art.
